S6C Update

20 September 2024
Last week the weather was glorious and spirits were high. Our rugby and football academy teams performed brilliantly and our Geography students enjoyed being out on field trips. It was also assessment week for our year 12 students and reports will be sent to parents when they are ready. On Monday we held an academic writing workshop for our humanities students and were absolutely delighted that writers Michael Bird, Jane Borodale, Jonathan Edwards, Andrew Miller, Polly Morland, Jon Stock, Stuart Walton and Anna Wilson from The Royal Literary Fund could join us for the day.

“The workshop was excellent! I really enjoyed the way it was taught and it allowed me to get closure on what I need to improve as well as what I’m doing right.” Lydia, Year 13

“I thought it was brilliant, really helped with knowing how to proofread essays and hopefully with my coursework in the future.” Tilly Yr13

“I thought yesterday gave us a new perspective on how to improve our writing and was delivered in a well thought out manner.” Emily Yr13

The sunshine also allowed our year 13 art students to create these exciting images from their large scale A1 cyanotype experiments.

What a GREAT day for the S6C Rugby and Football Academies!

S6C Rugby Academy 52 vs 0 Bishop Wordsworth’s Second Team
Good start on Wednesday for the Rugby boys. Great to have a run out and see the new batch of year 12s integrate with the strong year 13 contingent.

First half was very good – some lovely interplay, good shape and offloading rugby. We were really clinical at times. A joy to watch.

Second half became scrappy! We lost our cohesion which can happen when so on top. Stopped moving the ball and then we got into an arm wrestle which enabled them to stay in the contest. That being said, for a first outing we were really happy! Some really entertaining rugby and that’s what we are all about. It’s fun to be part of this and there is such a lot of growth in this side. Looking forward to the next game. Bishop’s First Team were on the side of the pitch heckling throughout, which has only fuelled the lads to be super motivated when we play them in the future.

Mica was Man of the Match, as he led by example and was deadly at the back.

Onwards and upwards for the lads. Roll on the next one against Bournemouth Collegiate next Wednesday!

S6C AFC Bournemouth Academy 12 vs 0 Exeter City
Today we played Exeter at home. The warm up was slow but that changed from minute one when the match started. Throughout the game we played some great passing football. Patient in the build up, controlling the pace of the game, exploiting any space created. We passed through the lines and were clinical in the final third. Last year we didn’t often take our chances, and we paid for this, often dropping points.

We were ruthless on Wednesday and didn’t stop until the final whistle, which resulted in a 12-0 win. Great performance all round and well deserved victory!

Played 2, won 2. 6 points and still top of the table with an 18+ Goal Difference!

The goals Wednesday were as follows:
1-0 Max
2-0 Ben – Olly K assist
3-0 Max – Olly K assist
4-0 Aaron – Max assist
5-0 Olly Bowden – Max assist
6-0 Max – Ben assist

Half time

7-0 Hugo – Harry M assist
8-0 Max – Aaron assist
9-0 Hugo – Harry M assist
10-0 Aaron – Harry M assist
11-0 Maka – Hugo assist
12-0 Aaron

Man of the Match: Max Elshaw for a great all round performance, and being ruthless/clinical in front of goal.
